Sony has set the date for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Margot Robbie's first theatrical release after Barbie.

Over Mother's Day weekend in May of 2025, (May 9, to be precise) the film starring Robbie and Colin Farrell will open in theatres. Among the first to report on the development was The Hollywood Reporter.

Seth Reiss wrote the screenplay, and Kogonada (After Yang, Pachinko) is directing it. Plot details were scant when the project was announced, but word on the street is that it revolves around two total strangers whose lives take an unexpected turn and end up aligning in a very unlikely way.

The film was produced and funded by 30WEST, with Imperative Entertainment serving as the other major investor. Along with Reiss and Youree Henley, the project is produced by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Ryan Friedkin of Imperative Entertainment. Ori Eisen of Original Films, Kogonada, and Ilene Feldman are the executive producers.

The dating announcement follows Sony's promotion of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey as a female-focused project, which had a disappointing debut at the box office last week with It Ends With Us. According to the same THR report, the feature film starring Blake Lively has made $100 million worldwide, with a budget of $25 million.
