Netflix is considering a comeback to Hillman College.

The streaming platform is currently working on a new series that serves as a sequel to A Different World, the beloved NBC sitcom from 1987-1993. The show, which was set at a historically Black university, is in its early stages of development. The new project will revolve around the youngest daughter of Whitley (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), who is currently a student at Hillman. Deadline was the first publication to report the news. Netflix is yet to comment on the development.

The potential sequel is being crafted by the talented writer Felicia Pride, known for her work on Grey's Anatomy and Queen Sugar. The creative team behind the original show, including producer and director Debbie Allen, Tom Werner (whose Carsey-Werner produced A Different World), and writers Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood, are also on board for this exciting project. All of them will be executive producers on the project, alongside Pride and Mandy Summers.

A Different World was a clever spinoff of The Cosby Show, taking us on a journey with Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) as she embarked on her college adventures at Hillman. Bill Cosby, although not involved in the sequel, is credited as the show's creator. Allen joined the cast in the second season as part of a revamping that led to Bonet's departure (although she did return as a guest star in season three). The focus of the show shifted to a broader ensemble, which included Guy, Hardison, Dawnn Lewis, Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, Charnele Brown, Glynn Turman, Sinbad, and Lou Myers.

If it were to progress, the Different World sequel would become another second-generation sitcom at Netflix, alongside That '90s Show. Werner is also an executive producer of That '90s Show, as Carsey-Werner was responsible for That '70s Show during its original run on Fox.
