With their different films Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends With Us, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds created their own Barbenheimer moment at the box office.

Marvel Studios and Disney's Deadpool & Wolverine topped the North American chart with $54.2 million in its third weekend after crossing $1 billion globally on Saturday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the blockbuster grossed $1.029 billion worldwide on Sunday, with an estimated domestic total of $494.3 million and $535.2 million overseas.

Marvel's movie is a hit, and more will follow. In just days, the film will surpass Warner Bros.' Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time worldwide.

Sony's new female-powered It Ends With Us, starring and produced by Lively, opened second with an estimated $50 million, exceeding expectations and giving Lively her biggest opening as a leading actress.

It debuted to $30 million from its first 42 markets for a global start of $80 million, according to THR. It was more than twice as good as Anyone But You and four times better than Where the Crawdads Sing, both Sony titles. Europe earned $13.5 million, led by $5.7 million from the U.K. Latin America and Asia Pacific, led by Australia ($4.7 million), performed well.

The movie's A-CinemaScore and 95% Rotten Tomatoes audience score show the pent-up demand for female-targeted films (mixed reviews didn't hurt it).

A Little About It End With Us

Lily Bloom, played by Lively, overcomes a traumatic childhood to start a business in Boston and fulfil her lifelong dream in It Ends With Us. After meeting charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni), Lily falls in love with him and sees sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents. Lily's relationship with Ryle is upended when her first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), returns, and she realises she must rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.
