As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Camila Mendes, who is widely recognised for her role as Veronica on Riverdale, has been cast as Teela, a pivotal character in the live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.

The film adaptation of the iconic 1980s toy line will star Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You), who plays the role of He-Man, opposite Mendes. Travis Knight, the man behind the scenes of stop-motion animation studio Laika and their previous feature film Kubo and the Two Strings, is taking the helm for this project.

The titular character, Prince Adam of Eternia, gains superhuman strength and abilities after transforming into the muscular He-Man with the help of his Power Sword. While specifics about the plot are being kept under wraps, the basic premise revolves around this. The planet is protected from the nefarious Skeletor and his legions by him and his diverse group of friends.

Captain Teela of the royal guard is the adopted daughter of the royal family's weapons inventor, Man-at-Arms. Her suspicions about Prince Adam's true identity as the heroic He-Man and her romantic interest in him shift throughout the animated series.

After early drafts by Aaron and Adam Nee, as well as David Callaham, Chris Butler penned the screenplay.

Produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films, the film is set for a global theatrical release on June 5, 2026.

After screentesting two weeks ago alongside rising stars Clara Rugaard, Alexandra Shipp, and Quintessa Swindell, Mendes has scored a major coup with her casting in the high-profile, big-budget production in a memorable role.

Veronica, the role that brought Mendes fame, was on the Riverdale series that ran from 2012 until last year. Prior to her recent work with Upgraded and Música (2024), she collaborated with Robinson on Do Revenge (2022), a Netflix teen black comedy. Her starring role in Sony's upcoming horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer is set to film this autumn.
