The Netflix genre thriller has gained momentum after landing the high-profile spectacle, Apex earlier this year. Deadline reports that Charlize Theron is in final negotiations to star and Baltasar Kormákur to direct.

As per the very same Deadline report, the Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs script by Jeremy Robbins follows a rock climber who is hunted in the wild.

Theron, Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono, and AJ Dix will produce the project through their new media company, Kormákur through RVK productions and Ian Bryce, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready through Chernin Entertainment.

This project's development is rare in the industry, where studios want a big talent package before signing on. Netflix executives were so impressed with Apex's script that they bought it with only the producers. Theron and Kormákur were their first choices for actor and director, and in another rare case, both committed to it right after reading the script.

Theron has starred in several Netflix films, including The School of Good and Evil, The Old Guard, and its upcoming sequel, The Old Guard 2. See The Old Guard trailer below.

On the other hand, the drama Touch earned Kormákur his best reviews ever. The film has 93% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after receiving positive reviews, so he certainly has some street cred.
