The sequel to Paramount Pictures' alligator thriller Crawl will make you fear the water again.

Paramount is developing Crawl 2, a sequel to the 2019 horror hit, and plans to shoot it in Europe in the autumn, according to THR. Crawl director Alexandre Aja and producers Craig Flores and Sam Raimi return for the sequel.

The film's release date is unknown, but Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Project Almanac's Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan are writing the script.

Crawl, written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, starred Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper. The sequel will star a new cast. Crawl 2 will move from Florida to New York City, sources say. The original film followed Haley (Scodelario) and her father Dave (Pepper) as they tried to survive a hurricane that trapped them in their house with a deadly alligator.

As the film progresses, the hurricane and multiple alligators continue to cause problems with no one to help. Haley survives, but the sequel may feature a different cast. In a previous interview with Bloody Disgusting's Book Crew Podcast, Aja discussed taking Haley further and telling a different story in a future film.

Crawl (2019) Trailer:

Crawl over doubled its $14 million budget with $91.5 million in box office revenue. Horror films have been profitable for years, and Crawl 2 could outperform the original depending on how well it's received. It may be profitable again, leading to more anthology-style Crawl films like Paranormal Activity and Final Destination, but we'll have to wait.
