Deadpool & Wolverine is a watershed moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman collaboration is the first 20th Century Fox-produced series to continue its story under the Marvel Studios label, with the events of Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018) deemed canon prior to the threequel. Although Wade Wilson has already indicated that his characteristic R-Rated humour would continue, the setting in which he delivers his speech remains to be determined. on one hand, all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films have their own distinct, relatively jovial and light-hearted flflair. The X-Men franchise, on the other hand, tends to lean towards a more serious tone and relies more on dry and deadpan-like humour during its comical moments, hence it will be interesting to see the marriage of the two tones in the upcoming Shawn Levy-directorial.

Shining a spotlight on the same, during an interview with the host of The Official Marvel Podcast, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Fiege said that "It was really, really nice the way Shawn Levy, our director, and Ryan were able to come in and embrace the best of what Ryan had pioneered with Deadpool and what Hugh had pioneered on those early X-Men films and bringing them in a very irreverent way, which people are already starting to piece together based on the trailers and the presence of the Time Variance Authority into our sandbox."

Although the Deadpool franchise is uncharted territory for Feige, the roof it was built on is familiar. Feige's Marvel career began as an associate producer on X-Men (2000). When Hugh Jackman signed on to the Deadpool & Wolverine sequel, the threequel became much more emotive for Feige.

While elaborating further on the subject, Fiege added that “When Hugh came on board, it became very emotional on a personal level for me, because my Marvel career absolutely started 26 years ago in pre-production on the first X-Men film," Feige continued. "I was apart of X-Men 1 and X-Men 2, and really the first three to a certain extent, before we had the honor and privilege of becoming Marvel Studios and developing the MCU. I had not seen Hugh in a while and certainly had not thought about Wolverine or the X-Men as something that we could do ourselves for many, many years."

As of this writing, Deadpool & Wolverine is already on track to make anywhere between $200-239 million as per the trade pundits, based on the advance booking numbers alone. It is also believed by many that Deadpool & Wolverine can very well cross the billion-dollar mark at the international box office due to the number of years the audience has had to wait for the film, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy’s track record at the box office and on streaming and the fact that after nearly a decade of waiting, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will be seen sharing the screen as their beloved superhero characters.
