Despicable Me 4 Sits On An Astonishing Box Office Total After 15 Days Of Release

In just two weeks, Universal's Despicable Me 4 has broken box office records. Inside Out 2, which debuted a few weeks earlier and has broken box office records in its month-long run, competed with the hit animated sequel. Both films grossed around $1.8 billion worldwide, benefiting from healthy competition rather than cannibalising each other.

Despicable Me 4 grossed over $5 million on its 15th day in domestic theatres, bringing its total to just under $230 million. With $225 million from overseas markets, the film's global gross is over $450 million. This weekend, its third in domestic theatres, it will pass half a billion dollars worldwide, possibly surpassing Despicable Me's $550 million lifetime gross.

Despicable Me 4 is the fifth-biggest Hollywood film of the year, behind Inside Out 2, Dune: Part Two, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Kung Fu Panda 4. Family audiences praised the film despite mixed reviews, making it a summer hit. Rotten Tomatoes rates Despicable Me 4 89% audience and 55% critic. Opening day crowds gave the film an A- CinemaScore, which bodes well for its chances of becoming the third franchise film to cross $1 billion worldwide.
