Timothée Chalamet is eyeing the lead role in Josh Safdie’s next film, which presumably centres around, um, Ping Pong we guess?

The Dune 2 and Wonka actor is finalising his contract to star in A24's Marty Supreme. Its plot is unknown, but the film is said to be a fictionalised original. This piece of news was first reported by Variety and was then confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

THR additionally reports that the film will be directed by Josh Safdie from a script he wrote with Ronald Bronstein. Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Safdie, and Bronstein are set to produce the A24 feature.

Safdie returns to A24 after the company produced his two most recent films, Good Time (2017) and Uncut Gems (2019), which he co-directed with his brother Benny. The Safdies will produce through Elara Pictures but no longer co-direct. Good Time and Uncut Gems, starring Robert Pattinson and Adam Sandler respectively, were also written by Bronstein.

A24's teaser image below suggests Marty Supreme involves ping-pong, which makes the upcoming film all the more intriguing. Take a look at the tweet yourself.

Chalamet recently appeared in Dune: Part Two and Wonka. Chalamet also produced James Mangold's biopic A Complete Unknown, in which he will play Bob Dylan.
