The screenplay for Michael Mann's 1995 crime classic Heat 2 is well underway, according to a recent interview with the director, as per a report on Comicbook.com. Mann also directed Ferrari. He co-wrote Heat 2 the novel with Meg Gardiner, and it came out in 2022. Even if Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were to wish to reunite the band, it would not align with the plot because the time jump in the book is not 25 years. Alternatively, Austin Butler and Adam Driver, who collaborated with Mann on Ferrari, are supposedly in talks to join the cast. But Mann has chosen to remain silent on the matter.

He did say that he is targeting the latter half of 2024 or the beginning of 2025 to launch Heat 2. An odd choice for a sequel made so long after the original may have ended production might be forgiven if you consider that the director is the same man who turned his breakout TV series, Miami Vice, into a film. In reality, Mann, in fact, even remade a made-for-TV film called L.A. Takedown, and that movie eventually came to be known as The Heat.

How Heat 2 plays out in theatres is sure to be an intriguing observation, isn't it?
