Michael C. Hall To Reprise His Role As Dexter Morgan For 2025's Dexter: Resurrection

Michael C. Hall will reprise his role as Dexter Morgan in the upcoming Showtime series Dexter: Resurrection, which will further expand the Dexter universe.

Dexter: Original Sin, the previously announced prequel series set in the 1990s, will also feature Hall narrating the inner monologue of a young Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson. Set in the modern day, Dexter: Resurrection is the sequel to 2021's Dexter: New Blood. Notable entertainment daily, The Hollywood Reporter, was the first to break this story.

Hall and both shows' executive producers and showrunners, Clyde Phillips, made an unexpected appearance at Friday's Dexter: Original Sin panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where the news was announced.

The following statements were made by the present executives, according to the Hollywood Reporter:

“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global co-CEO and president/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”

Hall played the title role in the six seasons of Dexter, which began airing in 2006. Limited series Dexter: New Blood, which premiered in 2021 and became a cult classic, continues the story ten years after the original series ended.

Premiering in December 2024, Dexter: Original Sin will be followed in the summer of 2025 by Dexter: Resurrection.
