The film Sarfira received a 'U' certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Examining Committee, however, requested a substantial change. They had asked the makers to all the inappropriate and colourful terms used in the film with more appropriate ones. The second requirement was that the producers must add a declaration at the start of the film stating that the events depicted in the film are based on real-life events. They were required to offer paperwork for the same to the board. One of the first news portals to break the news was Bollywood Hungama.

As per the same Bollywood Hungama report, In the above-mentioned declaration, the producers were also required to go into additional detail regarding the scene in which Akshay Kumar's character, Vir Mhatre, meets Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former president of India.

Additionally, they are also required to clarification regarding the use of well-known industrialists' and businesses' names in the aforementioned declaration. The lengthy process was concluded by attaching a NOC from the Ministry of Defence to the declaration.

On July 4, the film was passed by the CBFC members after they were satisfied. According to the censor certificate, the running time of Sarfira now stands at 2 hours and 35 minutes.

One interesting fact about Sarfira is that it is the official remake of Suriya's critically acclaimed 2020 film, Soorarai Pottru. Two hours and 29 minutes was the running time of that film. To rephrase, the new film is six minutes longer than the old one.

A Little About Sarfira

A man named G R Gopinath, who founded the budget airline Air Deccan in India, is a major influence on Sarfira. The lead actor from Soorarai Pottru, Suriya, makes a brief appearance in the film. On top of that, he's a producer on both films. Cinemas will screen Sarfira, whereas Soorarai Pottru was a direct-to-steaming film that made its debut on Amazon Prime video back in 2020.
