SDCC 2024: Robert Downey Jr. Returns To The MCU As Dr. Doom! Watch Announcement Video

In a delightful twist of fate, Marvel Studios has announced that its most beloved star will be making a triumphant return to the MCU for not one, but two Avengers movies.

Get ready for some serious excitement as Robert Downey Jr makes his triumphant return to the big screen! The iconic actor is set to reprise his role as the infamous Doctor Doom in the highly anticipated films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Kevin Feige has made it official: the Russo bros. will be taking the helm for the next two Avengers films.

Downey was unveiled in a ceremony that had an air of reverence, as a group of men dressed in olive robes and sporting masks reminiscent of Doctor Doom made their way onto the stage, joining Feige and the Russo Bros. "If we're going to bring Victor Von Doom to the screen, he is truly a fascinating character. In fact, he is one of the most complex characters in all of comics. It's safe to say that this could be one of the most entertaining characters in all of fiction," expressed Joe Russo. "If we're going to pull this off... we absolutely need the most exceptional actor on the planet."

The announcement heralds an imaginative transformation for the recently renamed Avengers: Doomsday, set to precede Secret Wars and take its place as Avengers 5. Two years ago, Feige delighted fans at Hall H with the announcement of a new Avengers 5: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Unfortunately, the film's plans to feature Jonathan Majors as the time-traveling villain Kang were derailed in December when Marvel had to sever their connection with the acclaimed actor due to his legal troubles.
