María Gabriela de Faría, the Venezuelan actress who plays The Engineer in James Gunn's upcoming comic caper, Superman, will star in Romanticizing Monsters, a new serial killer film directed by Berkley Brady (Dark Nature). Deadline, a respected publication, broke the news first.
In the film, De Faría portrays Amelia Velez, a true crime podcaster and reporter looking into missing person cases linked to an active serial killer, whose existence is questioned by her boss as well as the police.
Justin Kelly and Katisha Shaw will produce the project, which will be one of the participants at the Frontières International Co Productions Market at Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal later today, according to Deadline. Casting directors Nicole Hilliard-Forde and Matthew Lessall will be overseeing the process of locking the actors for the feature.
As of right now, De Faría is on track to wrap up her portions for James Gunn's Superman, which is scheduled for July 11, 2025. Additionally, De Faría will star alongside Dylan Sprouse in the upcoming comedy The Duel, which will be released in theatres by Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment at the end of July.
Before Superman, De Faría earned recognition for her lead role in The Exorcism of God, a supernatural horror film co-written and directed by Alejandro Hidalgo. The film premiered at Fantastic Fest and was released by Saban Films. In addition to R#J, a modern-day adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, the actress has appeared on Fox's Animal Control, The Moodys, and Syfy's Deadly Class.
