Matt Shakman, the film's director, told renowned entertainment news publication ComicBook.com that the subtitle alludes to the Space Race of the 1960s in general, but that there are "a few meanings" that aren't meant to be revealed just yet. One of the more common understandings of the phrase, the "first steps" that an infant takes, raises the question of whether First Steps could also mean something else.

Franklin Richards—A Brief Overview

The birth and introduction of Franklin, the eldest son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, to the Marvel comic book universe in 1968 shook up the storytelling industry.
