Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four reboot is almost here, and the upcoming picture was the talk of San Diego Comic-Con with exclusive footage and new details. Taking place in a parallel universe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but taking place in the 1960s, the film—officially titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps—will usher in a new cinematic era for Marvel's First Family.

There will be many more questions about The Fantastic Four: First Steps as its theatrical debut approaches, but the full title of the film already raises one possibility: could Franklin Richards's cinematic debut be hinted at by the First Steps subtitle?

Would Franklin Richards Make an Appearance in The Fantastic Four: First Steps?

From the film's idealistic 1960s setting to the franchise's actual entry into the MCU to the team's early days as superheroes to, possibly, their relocation to the main Earth-616 of the Marvel multiverse prior to Avengers: Secret Wars, the subtitle First Steps inevitably provokes multiple interpretations. Matt Shakman, the film's director, told renowned entertainment news publication ComicBook.com that the subtitle alludes to the Space Race of the 1960s in general, but that there are "a few meanings" that aren't meant to be revealed just yet. One of the more common understandings of the phrase, the "first steps" that an infant takes, raises the question of whether First Steps could also mean something else.

Franklin Richards—A Brief Overview

The birth and introduction of Franklin, the eldest son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, to the Marvel comic book universe in 1968 shook up the storytelling industry. Over the next few decades, readers have watched as the character matures into one of the most powerful mutants of all time, with the ability to manipulate reality and psyonic powers. His younger sister Valeria Richards eventually joined him in the comics, and the dynamic between their families, along with Reed and Sue, has become an integral part of the Fantastic Four's narrative.

To set themselves apart from past film adaptations of the franchise and to bolster the team's emotional crusade, it's not completely out of the question that Franklin and Valeria could play a role in their family life. Whether Franklin appears in The Fantastic Four: First Steps as a young child, an infant, or even during Sue's pregnancy is anyone's guess, but either way, he would add another layer of intrigue to the franchise.
