A series order has been issued by ABC for the comedic series Shifting Gears, which stars Tim Allen as a widower who runs a classic car restoration company. His adult daughter, played by Kat Dennings of 2 Broke Girls and WandaVision fame, and his teenage children return to live with him, according to an article printed in The Hollywood Reporter. This series is a homecoming for Allen, who was the face of ABC's smash hit Home Improvement in the '90s and Last Man Standing for six seasons before Fox picked it up for its last three.

After Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, who were involved in developing and running the pilot, left Shifting Gears, the show will now go forward with a new showrunner.

Apparently, they left on good terms, and they'll both be listed as executive producers of the pilot. Aside from that, they are still doing business with 20th Television, the producers of Shifting Gears. Quickly, a new showrunner will be announced.

In addition to Dennings and Allen, the cast of Shifting Gears also includes Daryl "Chill" Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis, according to the same THR post. Scullys will serve as executive producers on the pilot, and Allen, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, and John Pasquin are all executive producers.
