Glenn Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones' "Twisters" has taken the weekend box office by storm. The disaster movie has gone on on to earn a total of $80.5 Million at the American domestic box office and around $42 million from overseas markets, which brings the global box office opening weekend total of the Lee Isaac Chung directorial to a little over 122 Million. As per the Variety report that first broke the news, After "Inside Out 2" ($154 million) and "Dune: Part Two" ($82 million), it's the third-biggest opening weekend of the year. Now, that is quite a storm that the flick cooked up, innit?
According to the same Variety article, experts think a number of things led to the initial ticket sales surge, but the biggest was that people really enjoyed the picture. According to CinemaScore, it has a grade of A-. Powell (known for "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Anyone But You" fame) and Edgar-Jones (a fan favourite from Hulu's romantic drama series "Normal People"), along with the reminiscence of the original cast including Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, contributed to the property's growing popularity.
Additionally, in the Midwest, particularly in the regions hit by these devastating natural catastrophes, "Twisters" did better than expected.
A Little About Twisters
"Twisters" is directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the man behind "Minari." It stars Anthony Ramos, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Glen Powell as storm chasers who get into a life-or-death struggle when numerous tornadoes converge over central Oklahoma.
